Lakeland’s 5th Annual Warrior Walk

Detailed information under the flyer.

Wounded Warrior Walk Date: Saturday, July 19, 2014
Time: 6:30 A.M. ( 13 minutes before sunrise)
Place: First Presbyterian Church at 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive. That’s the big (only)
church on the east side of the lake. Same location as the recent March of Dimes event.

Parking for volunteers is available via the north (left) driveway.

If you are coming from the Bartow area on US 98 turn left at the first
traffic light past Grove Park Shopping center. Follow Crystal Lake Drive to Lake
Hollingsworth Drive where you will turn right and find the church 100 yards on your right.

If you are coming from the Tampa or north Lakeland area go south on US98 which becomes
Bartow High Way. Don’t miss the turn. Continue on US98 then turn south (right ) onto
Hollingsworth Road (At Lakeland Senior High School) which will take you to Lake Hollingsworth
Drive. Turn left to the church.

From South Lakeland, take Cleveland Heights or Beacon to Lake Hollingsworth.

Freq: Lakeland repeater. Don’t forget to charge your handhelds. I will be on the air
by 5:00 A.M. Call for “Bill” or WW1WDP

Contrary to previous information assignments will be made at the church that morning. I have
the LARC safety vests; don’t forget your name tags.

I thank each and every one of you for helping to make this a great event.

At the March of Dimes walk several of us saw the essential donut delivery guy in
his $50,000.00 Audi forget his manners and cause a scene. We were all really glad
he wasn’t associated with us.
Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Be ready
for heat, egos and tempers.

For those who are interested and available, the small American flags will be placed
on the church grounds at 9:00 AM Wednesday morning.

And The Field Day Winners Are

Left to right Patrick, Christy KM4CUI, Ernie, Olivia KM4CUJ, and Peggy. Luck may have played a roll in their success, but anyone who has taken the Tech exam will tell you that it is mostly hard work and persistence.

Left to right Peggy, Glen KM4CUH, Ernie, and Patrick. Congratulations on getting your Tech Glen. There was another new ham who left before the pictures were taken. She is Debra Leahy, KM4CUG.

The Sky Is The Limit

Field Day This Weekend!

This is a last minute reminder about Field Day. Yes, we know it is all about radio work, but there are other issues that must be addressed.

Actually only two” eating and having a great time.

Just so you know, you are encouraged to bring a beverage and a dish to pass. Water, hots, beef, and burgers will be provided.

Times for the meals are as follows:
    Saturday @ 11:00 AM, lunch
Saturday @ 6:00 PM, dinner- be sure to bring the family!
    Sunday @ 6:00 AM, breakfast

Dress appropriately. Be sure to wear a smile. 🙂

Smooth Sailing For All Candidates!

Left to right: Richard Grubb-W8duk, Doug Herbert-KM4BYQ, Peggy Lang, Glenn Culler, Wilson Rry-KM4BYS, Mike Shreve- KK4UGD, and Randy Wildman.

After reviewing the test results,  Rich introduced Fred who covered a battery of details in preparation for the upcoming Field Day Ofensive.

After Fred, Don demonstrated how to measure rainfall with the official CoCorah rain gauge.

Finally, we had no less than two birthdays this month. Please note, that only Glen was willing to share his age. On the rare occasions when Al shares his age, it is rumored that he prefers the Juperian calendar.

Field Day Marshal Fred addresses the troops before Operation Field Day 2014.

Singing in the rain Don (“Kelly”) demonstrates how to read a rain gauge. Hat is optional. 🙂

Now that’s what I call a cake! We may be amatures when it comes to radio, but when it comes to eating, we are professionals all.

Al has been know to tell Marge and others that after someone put a hex on him he believes he is only 4B years old. Sounds evasive to me. 🙂
