March For Babies 2014

LARC’s three governing values are Service, Comradery, and Knowledge. Activities like the March For Babies is just one of the many ways we literally, walk the talk. As in past years, LARC was there to provide communication support during the March Of Dimes Walk For Babies.

Tuesday Breakfast Club

The Tuesday Breakfast Club is not an official club function, but most of its members are also LARC  members. We meet every Tuesday, 9:00 AM at the Brunch Box, 725 East Memorial. (Most come a few minutes early.) The food is good, and the conversation is about as diverse as you can imagine. While the men talk men talk, the women talk …? Well, I can’t really say, but I would have to assume it is very supportive of their spouses hobby. 🙂

Oh, and just in case you are wondering. Yes, we would love to see you there.

Winner of the “New Ham” Drawing

Chet wanted to have some lucky person win this copy of the Amateur Radio Handbook, but he wanted it to go to someone new to the hobby. So we held a drawing for only hams who have recently been licensed. The lucky winner was Jim, seen here with Chet. Congratulations Jim, and thank you Chet for donating this handbook.

Drew Glasbrenner KO4MA Vice President Of Operations, AMSAT

The LARC March 2014 presentation was given by AMSAT Vice-President of Operations Drew Glasbrenner, KO4MA. Drew has many years of experience in satellite operations and is the control operator for several satellites. He has operated from several locations around the world.

The AMSAT satellite communications talk was extremely interesting. The visual presentation was enhanced by a highly successful live presentation of communications through the FO29 satellite. LARC is very fortunate to have had such a high profile ham radio operator give us this wonderful presentation. You can find Drew listed in several places on the internet with AMSAT and satellite communications.

Drew is also a Geologist and works in the field of ground investigations for sinkholes. His expertise in this area has also taken him to national TV for sinkhole discussions.
