Drew Glasbrenner KO4MA Vice President Of Operations, AMSAT

The LARC March 2014 presentation was given by AMSAT Vice-President of Operations Drew Glasbrenner, KO4MA. Drew has many years of experience in satellite operations and is the control operator for several satellites. He has operated from several locations around the world.

The AMSAT satellite communications talk was extremely interesting. The visual presentation was enhanced by a highly successful live presentation of communications through the FO29 satellite. LARC is very fortunate to have had such a high profile ham radio operator give us this wonderful presentation. You can find Drew listed in several places on the internet with AMSAT and satellite communications.

Drew is also a Geologist and works in the field of ground investigations for sinkholes. His expertise in this area has also taken him to national TV for sinkhole discussions.

Beatrice F. Johnson

BEATRICE F. JOHNSON, 81

LAKELAND – Beatrice F. Johnson, age 81, born 3/6/32 in Rochester NY, passed 2/11/14 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center from heart failure.

Bea was an accomplished quilter and active in both The Feather Princes and the Ladies of the Lakes Quilt Guilds. She was a loving wife to William over the past, all too short, thirty-seven years. Once asked about her goal in life, she replied “to leave this world a little better than she found it.” This she did! She will be sorely missed.

Survivors include husband William [Bill, KI4ZMV], sons Stephen and Michael, stepson William H. Johnson, III, and sister Margery.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday March 22 for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please perform some unselfish random act of kindness with Bea in mind. She would love that.

Please join me in offering condolences and prayers to ease the grieving of those who are struggling with the void left by Bea’s passing.

Mike, KT2T

2014 Kick Off Meeting

New ham, new member, welcome Brian Varner, KK4WHA!
Wir haben kein Bier, aber viel gute Laune.

New Pres, welcome Rich!
While we have a new year, and new president, we will continue with the same strategy that that has made us successful in the past. Service, Education, and Comradary. Starting with January’s meeting and continuing throughout the year, our team has planned a series of interesting and educational programs.

New take on PSK31, welcome Rick!
Rick, ND4Z was kind enough to share his knowledge of PSK31 with the group. This is not the first time this topic has been presented, but every time it is, we see this mode from an entirely different perspective. Rick’s presentation was no exception. Word has it, that he made it look so easy, some of us are going to give it a try. 🙂

New toy for NASCAR fan, awesome George!
OK, so why is George holding a piston with his name on it? There was some talk about Santa, but I thought he traveled by sleigh. I guess you might say that while Rick ND4Z is big on South Cars, George’s thing is NASCARS. 🙂
